A Little About Laura...Laura’s love affair with cats began in 1991 when her very first cat, Mr. Kitty, a stray tuxedo, adopted her. Until then she had always been a confirmed and loving dog owner, but Mr. Kitty helped her discover her true path in life. Since that time a number of other strays, shelter cats, and foster cats have found their way into her heart and home. Laura began her dedicated volunteer service to the Cat Adoption Team in 1999. Even though she knows her special gift is working directly with and advocating for cats, she has worn a number of hats at C.A.T. over the years as adoption counselor, fund raiser, policy maker, intake coordinator, cage cleaner, groomer, behavioral counselor, and contributor to the shelter’s newsletters. During a hiatus from C.A.T. in 2005, Laura developed and ran the cat adoptions program at Animal Aid’s shelter and instituted their new adoption counselor program. She volunteers as a feline behavior resource for The Pixie Project and Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals. Born in Oklahoma, Laura lived there until age 18. This former opera singer studied and performed in places such as Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Rome, and Siena, Italy. These days she occasionally performs at her church but most of her singing is done for the cats in her care. Laura’s fervent desire to move to the Northwest was finally fulfilled in 1990. She then began a second career as a potter, another long-held wish. She spent five years studying in the ceramics' department at Oregon College of Art and Craft. She made all the porcelain dishes your cats will eat from. Her large pottery studio is now most often used for the kitties instead of making pottery. Laura’s extraordinary love of cats inspired her to become The Kitty Sitter and The Kitty Counselor.
